Jordan buys 50,000 mt of March barley at $227/mt CFR

Jordan has purchased 50,000 mt of feed barley at $227/mt CFR Aqaba to be shipped in the second half of March, market sources said Thursday.

Strict tender conditions have previously made willing participants scarce at Jordan's grain tenders.

At least four tenders were cancelled due to a lack of sellers prior to November 1, when two cargoes of 50,000 mt were bought at $232/mt CFR for the second half of January and the first half of February from Bunge and Ameropa.

Trading house GTCS is the seller for the November 9 tender, making Russia the most likely origin, market sources said.

Russian exporters have sold 2.517 million mt of barley so far this marketing year, up from 1.398 million mt at the same stage last year, data from the Ministry of Agriculture showed earlier this week.

Russian barley production is up this year as part of a wider increase in grain output. The barley harvest has seen 21.7 million mt harvested as of November 9, up from 19.1 million mt at the same stage last year, with yields up 2.81 mt per ha compared to 2.35 mt per ha in 2016.
