Vietnam’s Masan wraps up sale of feed business to De Heus

One of Vietnam’s biggest players in the feed sector – the conglomerate Masan Group – has confirmed completion of the sale of its feed sector to the Dutch feed group De Heus in a statement shared with its customers, trade sources have told Agricensus Friday.

The move, which was first announced back in September after the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding, clears the way for De Heus Vietnam to “acquire 100% of the feed related business of Masan.”

The deal is still awaiting clearance by relevant regulators and is expected to be concluded once the regulatory approvals have been granted.

“This milestone represents the progress made during the De Heus journey in Vietnam,” the statement circulated among industry sources said, with the new venture likely to be one of the biggest in the country.

“I think by 2022, if the acquisition is successful, they’ll be second biggest feedmill in Vietnam,” one trade source told Agricensus.

According to the USDA, Vietnam is expected to import 10 million mt of corn in the 2021/22 marketing year along with 3.6 million mt of wheat, and 5.3 million mt of soymeal.
