Data from the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange has highlighted the planting of the Argentine corn crop is slightly behind schedule, with 64.7% of the acreage now planted, versus last year’s national average of 81.6%.

Progress as of November 8 is also behind that of the six-year, 2012-2017 average, which stands at 74.8%, according to the data, released Thursday.

The early crop condition, however, stands at 91% good or excellent although nearly 40% of the crop’s hydration is described as ‘adequate’ as a period of dryness has delayed planting.

Corn crops globally have been affected by delays in harvesting or planting as weather has played a role in complicating activity.

However, yields in key producers such as the US have been impressive, leaving the lags to have a limited supportive effect.
