Census Commodity Data Ltd was formed in 2017 by commodity market journalist and business professionals who believe there are opportunities to provide insightful news and robust pricing information in a range of commodity markets.

We have clients in more than 60 countries globally and one of the widest distribution networks in the agricultural information industry.

Job Description

We are looking for a market reporter or industry professional with at least two years’ experience of either covering commodity markets or working in them to help us report on the bulk agriculture markets.

The role involves writing a mixture of real-time news, news analysis as well as price reporting, roughly in three equal measures.

As such, the candidate must have some experience of writing tight copy under time pressure and have a willingness to write longer-form journalism that seeks to join the dots and educate.

You will be part of an international team, and being a team player and a self-starter is of utmost importance.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting on trading activity in the global agriculture markets;
  • Assessing markets based on physical bids, offers and traded information in line with our published methodology;
  • Identifying and writing vanilla news stories;
  • Writing commentaries explaining the key trends that drive prices;
  • Crafting analysis pieces that take a forward view without editorialising;
  • Representing AgriCensus at industry events, such as conferences or in face-to-face meetings;
  • Providing editing support for our agriculture services; and
  • Identifying opportunities to improve our methodology or launch new price assessments.

Qualifications, experience and competencies

  • Two years of reporting/writing experience;
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to converse across a wide range of groups and personalities, internally and externally;
  • Clear, concise writing style, strong editing skills;
  • Proven analytical ability and superb excel skills;
  • Understands maths, economics and statistics principles; and
  • Excellent English writing skills.

Job Description

We are looking for dynamic, key members of the sales team who are going to be instrumental in taking us to the next level of development.

You will be committed to helping us rapidly build our brand awareness by establishing relationships with major global companies and ensuring they have tried our service. Thereafter, you will convert them into paying clients, manage the account, feed their requests back and handle the renewal.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop client relationships: identify, initiate contact and build our brand awareness among key users
  • Close sales at the appropriate levels
  • Secure contract renewal and grow revenues for each client
  • Collaborate with editorial teams focused on developing the product in different areas
  • Develop product offering to meet the changing needs of our client base
  • Leverage research and industry expertise into the client base.

Skills/Proficiencies required 

You must be passionate, energetic and happy working alone and in teams.

In addition, you will:

  • Be a highly self-motivated professional with a proven track record of managing client relationships and delivering incremental revenue, ideally in the B2B information space
  • Possess excellent networking, communication and presentation skills that allow you to uncover new opportunities and deepen client relationships
  • Have the tenacity, drive, commercial awareness and persuasiveness to close deals
  • Be target oriented
  • Be able to manage workload across all clients, balancing proactive commercial activities with reactive client support
  • Be able to quickly develop knowledge of market trends and dynamics
  • Be fluent in English and at least one other language
