The Japanese Ministry of Agriculture issued a tender to buy 101,902 mt of milling wheat from US and Canadian origin, which will close Thursday, for loading between May 21 and June 20.

The country seeks 20,702 mt Western White, 19,975 mt of HRW and 28,109 mt of Dark Northern Spring, all of US origin and 33,116 mt of Canadian Western Red Spring.

About 90% of Japan's 6 million mt of annual wheat demand comes from overseas and is solely purchased via Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), which then sells it on to Japanese food companies at a set price.
