Second Ethiopia tender pushes wheat demand to 1m mt

Ethiopia’s government launched a second tender for milling wheat Tuesday, taking the outstanding volume it is looking to buy in March and April to 1 million mt.

The tender is scheduled to close on April 30, with shipment to take place in the two months following, a statement on the Public Procurement and Property Disposal Service (PPPDS) website said.

Last week PPPDS launched a separate tender to buy 400,000 mt of optional origin milling wheat, with that deal set to close on April 19.

Ethiopia is still suffering the effects of a prolonged drought that cut domestic production this year and issued the tenders to curb growing wheat shortages in the country.

Details of Ethiopia’s previous tenders can be found on the Tenders Dashboard.
