Brazil soybean harvest hits 71%, corn 51%: AgRural

Brazil’s soybean harvest has reached 71%, according to a report by Brazil-based consultants AgRural, up six percentage points in the week and just short of last year’s figure of 74% at this time of the harvest.

In the bean-rich midwest, the harvest reached 99% of the area in Mato Grosso do Sul, 98% in Mato Grosso and 94% in Goiás, the consultants said.

Elsewhere, 96% of the area is harvested in Sao Paulo, 85% in Minas Gerais, 81% of the area in Parana, 28% in Santa Catarina and 12% in Rio Grande do Sul.

In the North/Northeast, the harvest of the 2017/18 harvest reached 25% in Bahia, 50% in Maranhao, 56% in Tocantins, 40% in Piaui, 27% in Para and 97% in Rondonia.

Meanwhile, in terms of corn, the rains this month guaranteed good development for the second maize crop in the Center-South of Brazil, where the planting is finished, the consultants said, while adding that 51% of the summer crop has been harvested.

The consultants are forecasting a soybean harvest of 117.9 million mt and a second corn harvest of 64 million mt from a total harvest of 89.9 million mt.

AgRural said it would revise its forecasts on April 9.
