Autumn wheat plantings in Bulgaria are now complete on 1.07 million hectares as of November 30, data from the country’s agriculture ministry revealed Thursday, with the pace of planting still ahead of 2016.

Corn harvesting is also continuing, although the pace has slowed right down, with 95.4% of the crop harvested, versus 95.2% last week with production now at 2.3 million mt.

At 1.07 million ha, the wheat area is up 2.8% on this stage of last year’s planting, and could be on track to surpass the 1.09 million ha planted in 2016, when the country produced 5.7 million mt of wheat.

Wheat exports from March 3 through to December 3 have surged 20% to 1.3 million mt.

"I don't think that wheat will exceed last year's area," one market source said.
